You’re Changing the World One Child at a Time
By any measure, 2008 was a remarkable year, but our supporters did not let us down. In fact, over 150 new donors joined up, helping us protect the children of Dorcas House from this year’s violence in Tijuana and turbulence in the economy. Muchas gracias to every one of you.

Visiting Dorcas House: Is it safe by Laurel and Colin Mathewson
"Proceed with caution" reads the title of a recent San Diego Union-Tribune article on safety concerns in Tijuana, the city Dorcas House's 40 children call home. Is it safe to visit "our" beloved children right now?

Angel Tree Donors
Angel Tree donors contributed over 60 gifts in addition to bags of beans and rice. Trinity Toymakers sent handmade toys and gifts of cash covered any extra needs, plus the cost of transporting the gifts to Mexico. Your gifts not only brighten the holidays for poor children in the Dorcas House neighborhood, they are sometimes the first sign of welcome these children receive.

Los Padrinos
Los Padrinos means “godparents,” and like real-life godparents, los padrinos of Dorcas House take an active part in the care and nurture of our children by funding a full week’s operating expenses at Dorcas House.

Stan Livingston: The Godfather of Dorcas House “Anyone who makes the trip to Dorcas House opens his heart to the children,” said Stan Livingston, the most recent donor to join los padrinos, which means ‘godparents’ in Spanish. “

Sue Howarth: Looking For A Boy Named Fred A church fundraiser for Dorcas House introduced Sue Howarth to the Tijuana foster home. “They had all these pictures of kids spread out on the table and you could sponsor one of them. It sounded like a really wonderful idea to ‘give’ my husband, Fred, a little boy for Christmas,” said Howarth.

Why Dorcas House Matters: A Volunteer’s Perspective Dorcas House is an amazing place. I have never been in the position that these young people find themselves; alone with no one to care for them, some with no one to even care. But I can imagine how terrifying it must be. For these children, Dorcas House offers safety, security, love and caring; a haven of trust and belief. A place from which to begin to build a life.

Holding Hands: What to Expect on your First Trip to Dorcas House One thing you will remember from your first trip to Dorcas House is how you were greeted. One of the “moms” will open the gates and you will quickly be surrounded by a throng of cheerful, chattering children.
